Toronto police are seeking a suspect in a June incident in which a woman said she was sexually assaulted by an Uber driver.

The alleged victim, a 21-year old woman, called for an Uber driver near the intersection of Church St. and Wellesley St. on June 20 at about 3 a.m., police said.

The assault allegedly occurred in the vehicle after the male driver drove the woman to her home.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Fareborz Karandish, 41, of Toronto.

He’s described as having a large build, short salt-and-pepper coloured hair, and tanned skin. He may be driving a 2014 Honda Accord with Ontario licence plate BWME 623.
Police said Uber has co-operated fully with the investigation.

“These are distressing allegations and our thoughts are with the rider. When we first learned of this on June 20, we reached out to police immediately and removed the driver from our platform. We will continue to work with the authorities during their investigation,” said Uber spokesperson Susie Health wrote in a statement.

The ride-sharing app allows users to track the location of nearby Uber drivers, the duration of rides, and the cost a customer paid for a ride. Police said information about the incident on June 20{+ }provided by Uber helped identify the suspect.

Despite this information, it took three months for police to publicly release an arrest warrant. Police said that this is because the incident is an ongoing investigation, and that the information Uber provided was factored in.
