WINDSOR LOCKS — A female pedestrian struck by a car on a busy road Sunday night has died, police said.

Chantel Lynch, 68, of Windsor Locks was close to the center line of Route 75, or Ella Grasso Turnpike, when the accident happened about 7:50 p.m., Sgt. Sebastian Garofalo said. An Uber driver who was carrying a passenger to Bradley International Airport struck the woman and stopped, Garofalo said. The driver, Mohammed Ahsan of Manchester, has been cooperating with police, Garofalo said. He was transported to an area hospital to be evaluated.

Medics arrived quickly and performed CPR on the unconscious Lynch, he said. An officer accompanied them in an ambulance and Lynch was rushed to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about 8:40 p.m.

Lynch, who Garofalo said was wearing brownish clothes, may have been trying to cross the street, which is in a commercial area. There is a Shell gas station on one side of the four-lane road and a Wendy’s restaurant on the other side, he said.

A regional team of traffic investigators, North Central Municipal Accident Reconstruction Squad, is investigating. Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information that may help investigators is asked to called Officer Shawn Barry, 860-627-1461, ext. 118.
